In this way the poses flow from one to another throughout the class. Hatha: A hatha yoga class will include a variety of yoga poses, breathwork (pranayama) and meditation. Poses are sequenced to benefit and nurture your whole body. The connection between your awareness, your breath and body ensures that the experience goes much deeper than just exercise. Iyengar: Iyengar yoga has been developed by living master BKS Iyengar, author of the classic book "Light on Yoga". This method is characterized by careful attention to alignment providing the most freedom of movement as well as safety from injury. It is appropriate for all levels. Yoga philosophy is skillfully woven into the asana teachings offering a relationship between the physical, emotional, physiological and spiritual intelligence. It is "meditation in action". Students of Iyengar yoga gain strength, flexibility as well as a means to deep relaxation. Kripalu: Kripalu Yoga is also called the Yoga of consciousness and compassion. It puts great emphasis on proper breath and alignment, coordination of breath and movement, and honoring the wisdom of the body. You work according to the limits of your individual flexibility and strength. Kripalu Yoga is the interplay of body, mind and energy. Within the physical body is a subtle flow of rhythmic energy pulsations that we call prana, or life force. Even the most insignificant thought can disturb or block this flow of energy, creating imbalance or even disease. Kripalu works to restore balance. Kundalini: Kundalini yoga is called "the yoga of awareness" because it awakens the prana or life force of the body, which is the unlimited potential that exists within every human being. Each class has a specific set of exercises (postures), body locks (Bhandas), meditations, mantra, mudras (hand postures) and breath techniques (pranayama) done in sequence to create exact, specific effects such as to balance the nervous, lymphatic or glandular systems, reduce stress, reduce depression, balance emotions, bring mental clarity, expand consciousness. Restorative & Meditation: Just When you thought yoga couldn’t get any better - along came restorative yoga! Learn the healing aspects of resting deeply in yoga poses supported by bolsters, blankets and blocks. The effects of even a ten minute mediation have been proven by modern science to de-stress the brain, relieve metal anxiety, increase compassion, improve memory and intuition. Tai Chi: The class will introduce students to Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), the art of meditation in movement. Foundational work on standing postures, alignment, natural breathing, energy development/testing, qigong, and Tai Chi forms will all be taught.
